A step by step guide through the process of assessments for Autism for children and adults.

Autism for children

Pre-assessment questionnaires
We ask you to complete some paperwork/questionnaires to provide detailed developmental and background information about yourself.

We request copies of any previous assessments you may have undergone.
Face-to-face appointment
A face to face appointment will then be offered at our Beckenham Clinic. This will last 1.5 – 2 hours.

The appointment begins with you completing the QbCheck with a member of the clinical team – this is a computer-based test that forms part of the assessment battery for all neurodiversity assessments at the Dr Kilbey Practice.
Appointment with Dr Kilbey
A clinical appointment with Dr Kilbey, which will be an opportunity to hear more about you and gather information about possible neurodevelopmental features. It will also be possible to review the results of the QbCheck during the meeting.

At the end of the meeting Dr Kilbey will discuss with you the next stages of the neurodevelopmental assessment.
ADOS-2 assessment
You complete the ADOS-2 Assessment (Autism Diagnostic Observational Schedule) in person at the Beckenham clinic. This appointment lasts approximately 45 – 60 minutes and is undertaken by two ADOS trained clinicians from Dr Kilbey’s team.
AAA assessment
The AAA (Adult Autism Assessment) is completed online with you and a nominated informant (partner/family member/close friend). This lasts approximately 2 hours.
Further information gathering
Further information may be sought from other agencies as required by Dr Kilbey.
Clinical review
A review of any previous assessments is undertaken by Dr Kilbey and her clinical team. Dr Kilbey and her clinical team review all data and an outcome is agreed.
Feedback
An online feedback appointment is arranged with Dr Kilbey or a member of her team.
Diagnostic report
Detailed diagnostic report (approximately 2 weeks after feedback date) sent to you with recommendations for home and work (if required) and with additional resources for further support.

Autism for adults

We also require a questionnaire to be completed by school to understand how your child presents in the educational setting. We request copies of recent school reports and any previous assessments your child may have undergone.
Face-to-face appointment
A face to face appointment will then be offered at our Beckenham Clinic. This will last 1.5 – 2 hours and will be for your child and, ideally, both parents to attend.

Clinical review
Dr Kilbey and her clinical team review all the data gathered and a clinical conclusion is reached.
Feedback
An online feedback appointment is arranged for parents/carers with Dr Kilbey or a member of her team. At the discretion of parents, the young person may also attend the feedback session.
Diagnostic report
A detailed diagnostic report is sent to parents/carers with recommendations for school and home, with additional resources for further support.

Please note that, where additional information from school is needed, an observation of your child within their educational setting may be recommended – cost £100. This will always be discussed and agreed with you in advance.
